The high plateaus in Madagascar, where winter nights can get quite cold
Surprisingly low: -7 to -8°C (19°F), even for young palms, and even lower for mature subjects, in well-drained conditions.
A very beautiful palm, with a fat grey trunk, smooth and rounded in the middle. Its pinnate palms are grey green.
Place it in a warm and sunny position, in a well-drained soil. In wet climates, place it on a small mound. It can grow in windy positions.
Deforestation has almost destroyed the whole species, only 100 to 200 Dypsis decipiens remain on Madagascar. It is listed in Appendix I of CITES (species that are threatened with extinction and are or may be affected by trade; only cultivated plants can be sold).
