Description of Rhapis humilis

A small palm (2 m 50), growing in small clumps of thin trunks, making it look like bamboos. It has thinner and more numerous leaves than Rhapis excelsa, taller strunks and its leaves are narrower, giving it a more slender aspect.

This palm does great indoors, but can be tried in the garden in partial shade in a rich, well-drained and slightly acid soil.

Story time

It was thought for a long time that only male plants existed, and that the only way to reproduce this palm was by dividing existing plants, but female plants do exist in China as well as in cultivation.
