Turkish date palm
Discovered in Turkey in 1967, it is one of a few European palms, along with Chamaerops humilis.
One of the hardiest Phoenix (-12°C; 10°F, or even below)
Close to the real date palm (Phoenix dactylifera), it is more compact, with spiky silvery grey leaves. It can withstand more humidity than Phoenix theophrastii.
Like Phoenix canariensis, in full sun, in a rich soil, with regular watering in summer.
It is named after the Greek philosopher Theophrastus, whose works are at the root of modern botany.
