Florida palm, Sabal parviflora, Sabal bahamensis
It is the iconic palm of Florida and South Carolina, where it grows along rivers.
Exceptionnally hardy for a southern palm: -12 to -15°C (14 to 5°F)
A gorgeous, medium-sized palm (7 to 10 metres in Europe), with an unusual trunk: the base of the fallen leaves form geometrical crisscrosses. The leaves are deep green, costapalmate and indented.
Place it in full sun, in the warmest place in your garden, with abundant watering in summer.
The flowers are small, white, fragrant and melliferous; the honey that is produced is sold under the appellation 'Sabal palmetto'
