A very rare bamboo palm with creamy white splashes. -7°C (19°F). Buy it online in 2- and 4-litre pots.
Lady palm, Rhapis flabelliformis, bamboo palm
Japanese cultivar 'Zuikonishiki'
Close to Rhapis excelsa, it is a multi-stemmed small palm, with brown fibers on the trunk and bright green palms, it can reach 3 to 4 metres in height. The leaves fall after some time and leave dark green scars on the trunk, making it look like a bamboo. This variegated form is extremely rare and really vigorous, with creamy white splashes.
Place it in full or half shade to preserve its lustre; it doesn't do well in direct sunlight. Put it under the rain or spray it with water from time to time. It can withstand poor light and lack of water, and is thus ideal for those who don't have green fingers!
If you plant it in your garden, put it in full or prtial shade, in a slightly wet soil, under the cover of taller plants: its leaves would be damaged by direct sunlight and heat.
The Japanese nobility of the 17th century loved it!
